'The City of Joy' is in a dreamlike state! An evening tinged with the glow of ornamental street lights has beautifully portrayed the tramcars, the heritage transport of Calcutta. Writers Building, the Greek Church and the Emperial Palace are perfectly matched in the background. Serpentine tram-lines in the middle of the watery street are so balanced that it reminds us of any odd rainy evening in Kolkata. Reflections on the ground brings out the creative imagination of the painter. Photography falls flat if such painting is created!
If queen Victoria had seen this painting, she would have mistaken it as a photograph. Wash in water colour against a monotone background is a beauty of the creative hand. Marvellous monument of the history, has so realistically been painted that it brings out a sense of awe.
Count your horses! Foggy winter morning coloured in blue creates a wide canvas for thinking. Hand made papers spread colours beautifully and add glorifying effect to the picture. Story of the early morning in the heart of Calcutta can hardly be spoken so clearly than this painting does.
Use of monotone and perspective ... gregorian and scholastic art! Perfect blend of oriental and occidental skills. Shades of blue beautifully blended.
One of the holiest places of the Hindus - Allahadabad. The Ganges itself brings a sense of holiness in us. Though the concept is entirely Indian in the strict sense of the term, painting has been done with a pure touch of western learning.
